Over the past decade, we have seen more residential customers install epoxy floors in their garages and basements. Epoxy floor systems not only provides a distinct look, but a more durable, stronger surface than concrete. It is commonly used in Cape Cod homes of residents who happen to be car enthusiasts as epoxy coatings are resistant to chemical stains including oil, gasoline, anti-freeze and brake fluids.
Epoxy floors are also ideal for commercial applications, particularly in settings where there is heavy traffic such as industrial facilities, athletic complexes and hospitals. There are a number of benefits to epoxy floors because they are slip resistant, fire resistant, sanitary and easy to clean.
INSTALLING EPOXY FLOORS IN YOUR CAPE COD HOME
Prior to installation we begin by washing your floors with a degreaser. On occasion, we will perform an acid wash to create a profile in your floor that is necessary to facilitate adhesion. In cases where there is existing paint on the floor, we will remove it using the proper equipment. This work will serve to prepare your home or business for the installation of an epoxy floor.
At Mad Hatter, we use a two-part epoxy that starts with a catalyst which serves as the activator causing the product to heat up and dry. RokRez, an industrial floor coating product that works quickly, is one example of an epoxy we use for these types of applications. There are dozens of other epoxy products, each of which requires a level of expertise to ensure it adheres to your floor correctly.
